Bonfire
By Sebastian Crane
The cartographer is tired of his maps
he unpins his wallpaper his frame
work of charted landscapes and lines
tumbles and curls like tongues like
beckoning fingers he resists the urge
to deliberate over the intricate water
marks plotting the now naked surface
and returns to his desk
his compass lies dormant on its side
its gleam and promise of perfection
no longer excites himhis ruler
cannot measure his exhaustion he sits
he sits
he sits
steps outside
burns
Sebastian Crane is a Melbourne-based poet trying to find that balance between work, study and creativity. Writing has been part of his life since he was taught the correct way to hold a pen. When not working, Sebastian normally can be found walking his loving mongrel in Albert Park.
